SUPPORT WORKER – RESIDENTIAL SUPPORT/GROUP HOMES

Job Duties/Description

  1. Create a positive and supportive atmosphere in the client’s home while maintaining effective communication with the our team and addressing any issues promptly.
  2. Accompany members to medical visits, errands, and other outings, offering both practical assistance and companionship.
  3. Provide assistance with daily activities such as grooming, bathing, dressing, mobility, and medication management.
  4. Provide timely care and support to members by traveling to their homes according to scheduled appointments.
  5. Use mobility aids and equipment, such as transfer boards or lifts, following proper safety procedures to ensure comfort and prevent injury.
  6. Administer medications as directed and monitor members for any changes in health or behavior, reporting concerns to our care team promptly.
  7. Encourage members to participate in physical and cognitive activities tailored to their abilities, promoting overall health and independence.
  8. Prepare and serve nutritious meals that align with members’ dietary preferences or restrictions, ensuring proper food safety practices.
  9. Advocate for members’ needs and preferences, ensuring they feel heard and supported in their care.
  10. Respond calmly and professionally to emergencies, ensuring the member’s safety while following appropriate protocols.

Qualifications

  1. Completion of a DSW, CSW, SSW, RPN, or PSW certificate program from an Ontario Community College or an approved private Career College registered with the Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities, including successful completion of the NACC Final Examination, or equivalent education.
  2. Certification in Standard CPR and First Aid is required.
  3. A current annual medical assessment, including immunizations, is mandatory.
  4. Pharmacology and medication training is considered an asset.
  5. Experience in the Caring & Support services sector is preferred.
  6. Training in CPI (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention), CTI (Crisis Intervention for Hostile or Aggressive Individuals), or Safe Management is essential.
  7. A valid G2 or G driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle is required.

Must be available to work on short notice, including weekends and holidays.

A vulnerable sector police clearance, along with copies of education and training certificates, will be required upon hire.
